The Foundation for the Future is proud to lend its support
to an important new regional initiative, the Foundation of Mediterranean
Women, first launched in 2011 by the Forum of Mediterranean Women of
Marseilles and the 43 states of the Mediterranean Union (UpM).
The Foundation was envisioned as a means to promote
the emancipation, autonomy and strengthening the role of women in the
Euro-Mediterranean and answer the failings that the Arab Spring has
shown towards women. First, the Foundation will fund local projects
intended to increase women’s participation in economic, political, social
and cultural life. Next, the Foundation’s website will be a trilingual
social networking platform bringing together the knowledge, skills,
research, news, and projects of Ministries and Departments of women’s
rights, local authorities, researchers, universities, associations, and
companies from 43 countries. Thirdly, the Foundation will seek to bring
together an Academic and Scientific network for researchers and educators
working towards women’s equality in the Mediterranean. Finally, the
Foundation will host an observatory that will conduct research, analyze,
and disseminate documents related to equality and women’s role in society.
While the Forum is headquartered in Paris, there will also be field offices
in Marrakesh, Biblos, Ramallah, and Amman to best build links between
the different activities and actors working towards women’s rights in
    the Euro-Mediterranean region.
In spite of these many goals, the Foundation is still
only partially operational and calls upon the support of corporate donors,
states, local authorities, institutions, research laboratories, women’s
associations, and partners with a shared interest in its cause to re-launch
these ambitious initiatives. This is in response to an increased
interest in the project’s goals seen at the 2013 Anna Lindh Foundation’s
meeting in Marseille, where a number of workshops and events focused on
    women’s rights in the region.
